In many organizations today
the tendency is to make the customer the company’s core business.
One of the
practical implications of this tendency is the information accessibility
revolution. A significant tool in this revolution is the organization’s web
site.
This
revolution has affected the health sector as well as other sectors, proof to
which are the many web sites that have been developed for medical centers and
hospitals. One of the largest and most complex sites in this sector is the
Hadassah medical organization’s web site.
This site has
been renovated and expanded by eGold Applications L.T.D., which is part of the
Afek Group.
Hadassah is one of the largest and most advanced medical centers in
Israel, and it includes, among other things, the medical center at Ein-Carem and
the one at Zofim Mon., both in Jerusalem.
In both medical centers there are about 5000 doctors, staff and service
personnel, 1,000 beds, about 130 different clinics & wards, 31 operating
rooms and 9 special intensive care units. During 2002 Hadassah serviced about
half a million people. Hadassah also has five medical schools and more than a
third of the medical research in Israel is being conducted by it.
The scope of Hadassah’s activity, its commitment to technological
excellence and optimal care to its “customers” led to the decision to expand and
improve its web site.
The previous web site was out dated and contained
thousands of information pages in Hebrew and English, which were hard to navigate
through. It was managed by a webmaster, from the organization’s computer department, who
was in charge of updates and site management.
In the new site there are various improvements and additions: a user friendly
search engine that helps the surfers to navigate and quickly find desired
information, an option to search for a certain doctor according to their specialization
or name, make doctor appointments, send a card to a patient and consult
with the medical staff.
In addition the medical personnel in Hadassah is encouraged to publish
relevant information, such as resumes and professional articles in the site.
Each doctor can create his or hers own home page within the site, and thus allow
the patients to review data and acquaint themselves with the medical staff who
will care for them, before they arrive at the
hospital.
The fact that the new site is based on the Microsoft Content Server (CMS)
allows for a convenient and efficient management of the vast amounts of data it
contains.
Hadassah’s marketing manager, Mr. Amitai Rotem, says that the new sites
contributes to various areas such as better communication with the public and
donors from Israel and abroad, and also operational costs economizing.
The web site’s address is www.hadassah.org.il.
